THE employment of individuals who own Nigeria Certificate in Education is fast eroding as Bachelor degree holders are given higher positions in nursery/primary schools.
Most NCE holders are given lower job opportunities despite the fact that they are trained as educators with much expertise and skills on handling the intricacies of pupils and students.
The B.Sc holders are often viewed as individuals with higher knowledge who can deliver much following the years of training by seasoned lecturers, professors and doctors.
The Head Teacher, Trinity Foundation School, Mrs Olajumoke Ofada, was of the opinion that teaching qualification and experience were key factors in their selection of teachers that would nurture the pupils.
“At primary level, an NCE holder can conveniently handle the pupils, although there are few of them in the primary school compared to the B.A, B.Sc, B.Ed holders,’’ she said.
Though the school director of Little Saints Montessori School, Mrs Bukunola Fadayomi, said NCE holders would not be given higher positions in the school due to government’s directive, she stated that she would prefer to employ them.
‘’NCE holders have done practical teachings and are more conversant with the education environment compared to the Bachelor’s degree holders who lack the needed expertise because they don’t do teaching practice and cannot deliver properly,” Fadayomi said.
It was observed that the NCE holders, despite their expertise in the techniques and methodologies of teaching, are hardly employed nowadays, due to the directives of the government.
